Former captain of Pakistan cricket team Saeed Anwar, who turned religious and started preaching Islam after retiring from the game, on Wednesday, May 15, landed in soup for his controversial and sexiest remarks. Saeed Anwar, who was once a hero for entire Pakistan, faced criticism from his own countrymen after a video of him created a buzz on the internet, in which, he blamed women for the rising number of divorces.

In the viral video, Saeed Anwar said that a sudden rise in the number of divorces, almost 30%, has been registered in the last 3 years in Pakistan. He described women entering the workforce as the reason behind the steep rise in case of separation.

"Since women have started working in Pakistan, divorce rates have climbed by 30 % in the last three years," Saeed Anwar said in the viral video. He further added that he has noticed a same pattern around the world.

"The wives say, 'to hell with you, I can earn myself. I can run a household on my own'. This is a whole game plan. You will not understand this game plan unless you find guidance," he added.

"I have traveled the world. I am just returning from Australia, Europe. Youngsters are suffering, families are in bad shape. Couples are fighting. The state of affairs is so bad that they have to make their women work for money," the former Pakistan cricketer further stated in the viral video.

Soon after Saeed Anwar's video went viral, the Islam expert was schooled by several women on social media platform X. A user said, "Your own wife is a doctor, how can you stop other women from working."

Another user said that 'Just because Pakistani men are not doing good, this is a new tactic to stop women from working".

An Indian user, Dr Shama Mohammed said, "Saeed Anwar should know that Kadijah Begum (Prophet's first wife) was a working business woman took care of the Prophet. Even after attaining Prophethood at the age of 40, Prophet Muhammed (P.B.U.H) did not stop Kadijah Begum from working! They were married for 25 years till her death! So stop bullshitting Saeed Anwar & spoiling the name of #Islam".
