“Don’t Tell Me What to Do”: Gambhir’s Angry Outburst At Oval Curator Sparks Controversy

Tensions flared just days before the fifth and final Test of the India-England series as India head coach Gautam Gambhir found himself in a heated confrontation with Oval pitch curator Lee Fortis. With the high-stakes decider of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy fast approaching, emotions ran high on Tuesday afternoon as Gambhir engaged in a visible argument on the field.

As reported by Hindustan Times' on-ground journalist, Gambhir appeared visibly agitated, pointing fingers and raising his voice after something evidently irked him. Witnesses reported that Gambhir lashed out at Fortis, saying, "You don't tell us what we need to do. You can't tell any one of us what we need to do. You are just a groundsman, stay like a groundsman." Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak was also involved, joining the conversation in what became an intense verbal exchange.

Although the specific cause of the disagreement remains unclear, it was evident that the confrontation left tempers frayed. Fortis initially walked away to speak with Kotak separately, possibly to explain his side of the matter, but Gambhir rejoined the discussion and continued to voice his frustrations before the two parties eventually went their separate ways. Gambhir returned to monitor the practice session, while Fortis kept a close eye on the Indian team's training from a short distance.

Sai Sudharsan, who was dismissed for a duck in the second innings of the Manchester Test, was the first Indian player to arrive for practice.

This isn't the first sign of tension in what has been a fiery Test series. The Lord's Test saw Indian skipper Shubman Gill lose his cool when England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett arrived late for their second innings. Gill reportedly told them to "grow some f****** b****."

In Manchester, the intensity shifted as England's Ben Stokes clashed with Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. With the match heading towards an inevitable draw, England offered to call the game off early. However, Jadeja and Sundar declined, each nearing their centuries. England's frustration became apparent, especially after Harry Brook bowled a series of loose deliveries that helped the Indian duo reach their milestones. The match ended in a draw, but not without leaving behind signs of growing animosity.

Now, with the series poised at a critical juncture, and both teams fired up, the Oval Test promises to be a fitting finale to a series filled with drama-both on and off the field.
