Cricket Rules 2024: ICC Announces 3 New Umpire Related Laws

Cricket Rules 2024: ICC Announces 3 New Umpire Related Laws

It has been noticed that loopholes in the current rules help the fielding side, so ICC may soon announce that will only focus on the side angle.

As per the current rule, the TV umpire checks all aspects, from legal delivery to ultra edge to perfectly caught behind the stumps, which favors the fielding sides to save a review. On many occasions, the wicketkeepers appealed unnecessarily, compelling the on-filed umpires to review what happened on the last ball. Sometimes, the TV umpire announced the batsman out for some other reason, and not for which the appeal was made. This helped the fielding side to save a chance of DRS (Decision Review System)

"The change confines a stumping review to only check for stumped, therefore preventing the fielding team a free review for other modes of dismissal (i.e, caught behind) without choosing a player review," Cricbuzz reported ICC's latest rule modification for stumping referrals.

Another rule change is about clarity on concussion replacement. "(It) provides clarity in the regulations to ensure that a replacement player will not be permitted to bowl if the replaced player was suspended from bowling at the time of their concussion."

Auto no-ball: "The third umpire will have a broader scope to automatically check all forms of foot fault no-ball in addition to the front foot.

On-Field Injury Assessment and Treatment: "Clarifies the time limit (maximum four minutes) allowed for an on-field assessment or treatment of an injury."
