Cheteshwar Pujara Announces Retirement, Calls Journey ‘Truly Worth It’

Cheteshwar Pujara, one of India's most dependable Test batters, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Sunday at the age of 37. The veteran cricketer made the announcement through a heartfelt social media post, expressing gratitude for his 13-year journey representing India, Saurashtra, and several domestic and international teams.

Reflecting on his career, Pujara wrote, "As a young boy from Rajkot, with my parents by my side, I dreamt of wearing the Indian jersey and playing for my country. Little did I know that this journey would bless me with so much - priceless experiences, opportunities, love, purpose, and above all, the honor of representing my state and this great nation."

He described the experience of donning the Indian colors and singing the national anthem as an emotion beyond words. "But as they say, all good things must come to an end. With immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket. Thank you for all the love and support!" he added.

Pujara extended his thanks to the BCCI, Saurashtra Cricket Association, his mentors, coaches, and spiritual guru, acknowledging their crucial role in his growth as a cricketer. He also expressed appreciation for teammates, support staff, umpires, ground staff, net bowlers, scorers, analysts, and media personnel for their efforts behind the scenes.

Recognizing the contribution of sponsors and fans, he said their unwavering belief and passion fueled him throughout his career. "The game took me to different parts of the world, but the constant has always been the incredible support of the fans. I have been humbled by their wishes and encouragement wherever I played," Pujara noted.

He credited his family for being his strongest support system. "None of this would have been possible without the sacrifices and unconditional backing of my parents, my wife Puja, my daughter Aditi, my in-laws, and extended family. They made this journey truly meaningful. I now look forward to the next phase of life, spending more time with them and prioritizing family."
