Champions Trophy Final IND Vs NZ: Scorching Heat, Spin-Friendly Pitch To Play Key Factors In Dubai

Dubai's intense heat and spin-friendly pitch will be key factors as India and New Zealand face off in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

With temperatures forecasted to reach around 32°C, captains will have a crucial decision to make at the toss. While teams have generally preferred chasing under the afternoon sun, the lack of significant dew at the venue so far means that batting first could still be advantageous if a competitive total is posted.

The Dubai pitch has favoured spinners throughout the tournament, offering turn and making stroke play challenging once the ball softens.

The Powerplay has been the best phase for batting, with the new ball coming onto the bat nicely. However, as the innings progresses, batters have needed to adapt to the surface's sluggish nature. A similar pattern is expected in the final, making early aggression and steady middle-over play vital for success.

India, unbeaten in the tournament, will approach the final with confidence, having already defeated the Blackcaps in their group-stage encounter at the same venue last Sunday.

However, New Zealand, led by Mitchell Santner, have often troubled India in ICC events, securing crucial knockout victories in the past. The Kiwis will take encouragement from their dominant semi-final win over South Africa and will be eager to turn the tables on the Men in Blue.

India's key weapon with the ball will be mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy, who dismantled the Kiwi batting order in their previous meeting. However, having already faced him once, New Zealand's batters will be better equipped to counter his deceptive variations.

Meanwhile, New Zealand will rely on Santner's left-arm spin, which has previously troubled India and could pose a significant challenge for their middle order.

With the bat, Rohit Sharma's role at the top will be pivotal for India. Despite a blistering knock against Bangladesh in the tournament opener, the Indian captain has struggled for form.

A strong start from Rohit could put New Zealand on the back foot early. On the other hand, Santner, who turned the game in New Zealand's favour with a superb spell against South Africa in the semi-final, will be crucial in restricting India's aggressive batting lineup.
