Champions Trophy 2025: Mohammed Shami Likely To Be Rested Vs New Zealand
Team India is all set to take on New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. The match is surely going to be a nail-biting contest as both, India and New Zealand, have been unbeaten in the tournament so far. Though, both teams have already qualified for the semis but winner of this match will decide the group A topper.
Ahead of the match, sources reported that Team India may rest Mohammed Shami, who made a superb comeback and bowled beautifully against Bangladesh and Pakistan. Shami is likely to be replaced by Arshdeep Singh. It was learned that team management decided to give rest to Mohammed Shami following his calf issue, which was pulled during the game against Pakistan.

Also adding a left-arm bowler in the squad may help Team India against five left-handed batters in New Zealand's team.
During a recent practice session, Arshdeep Singh bowled 13 overs under the guidance of bowling coach Morne Morkel, while Shami managed only 6-7 overs with a reduced run-up. This suggests that Arshdeep is being considered as a potential replacement for Shami to give him some rest before the semi-finals.
Team Selection Challenges
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate discussed team selection challenges, particularly regarding KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Despite Pant's absence from recent matches, ten Doeschate acknowledged the difficulty of making such decisions at this level. He praised Rahul's performance in crucial moments, highlighting his contributions in key matches.
KL Rahul has been performing well despite limited opportunities. Batting lower down the order often means fewer chances to make an impact. However, his performances in critical games have been noteworthy, including a significant knock against Bangladesh.
Rohit Sharma's Injury Update
Ryan ten Doeschate also provided an update on Rohit Sharma's injury status ahead of India's important clash against New Zealand. Speaking to reporters in Dubai, he assured that Rohit is managing his injury effectively and remains fit for the match. "He's all right. As you can see, he's batting, and he did a little bit of fielding earlier," ten Doeschate stated.
The Indian team management seems inclined to rest Shami before the semi-finals due to his recent injury concerns. KL Rahul expressed uncertainty about changing a winning combination but hinted at possible changes in the bowling line-up.
