BCCI To Sack Gautam Gambhir After BGT Disaster?

Newly appointed India head coach Gautam Gambhir's tenure started with significant challenges. Team India faced humliating deafeats in recent series against New Zealand by 3-0 and Australia by 3-1. Despite facing a hard time in recent series, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to back Gautam Gambhir as India head coach and will not make any big decision regarding Gambhir's position. However, a review meeting will be held to scan India's performance on Australia's tour and Gambhir's performance.

The BCCI has plans to retain Gautam Gambhir as head coach for the forthcoming England tour, but if India fails to perform upto the expectaions, then the cricket governing body might take some harsh call.

"Yes, there will be a review meeting but no firing. C'mon, you can't sack a coach for the batters' poor show in one series. Gautam Gambhir will remain the coach, and Virat and Rohit will feature in the England series. The focus is Champions Trophy," a BCCI official told to media agency IANS.

The board will also review performances of ace batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who failed to impress with bat. Sharma's Test career seemed uncertain after he opted out of the fifth Test in Sydney, and discussions about Kohli's future in Test cricket were anticipated post-series. Nonetheless, the same BCCI source suggests a possible reprieve for both players.

They might be included in the squad for the England tour, albeit with a caveat. In an effort to regain their form, Sharma and Kohli might be advised to participate in domestic cricket before the pivotal tour.
