BCCI To Advertise For New Team India Head Coach, Says Jay Shah; Rahul Dravid Can Apply Again
With only a couple of weeks ahead of the T20 Cricket World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has revealed that India Cricket Board is planning to advertise for a new head coach, indicating the conclusion of Rahul Dravid's tenure. Dravid, who assumed the coaching role in November 2021 and received an extension post the 2023 ODI World Cup, is unlikely to continue in the position. Shah disclosed this information during a media briefing at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, citing Dravid's contract expiration in June, coinciding with India's T20 World Cup campaign.
While Dravid remains eligible to reapply for the position, Shah clarified that the decision lies with the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). He refrained from disclosing whether the new coach would be of Indian or foreign nationality, emphasizing that the CAC would determine the appointment. Shah highlighted the global stature of the BCCI and noted the absence of precedent for such circumstances in Indian cricket.

Moreover, Shah confirmed the intention for a long-term coaching appointment, with the selected individual expected to serve for more than two years. This announcement marks a pivotal juncture for Indian cricket, as the nation prepares to bid farewell to Dravid's coaching era and usher in potential new leadership. The search for a new head coach signals the BCCI's commitment to maintaining the team's competitive edge and fostering its development across formats.
As the cricketing fraternity eagerly awaits further developments, the prospect of a new coach brings both anticipation and speculation regarding the future direction of Team India. Dravid's impact on Indian cricket, both as a player and coach, remains undeniable, leaving behind a legacy that will endure for years to come.
