BCCI Announces Rs 1 Crore Help For Legendary Cricketer Who Is Battling Blood Cancer

Extending a hand of help, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday announced to give Rs 1 Crore to cancer-battling former cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad. The cricket governing body was informed by 1983 World Cup-winning team captain Kapil Dev and former cricketer Sandeep Patil about Anshuman Gaekwad's ill health and how former cricketers were contributing money from their pensions.

Reacting to the legendary cricketer's request, the BCCI, very next, announced financial aid for Anshuman Gaekwad. The BCCI apex council, in a statement, said, "Mr Jay Shah has instructed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to release Rs 1 crore with immediate effect to provide financial assistance to India's veteran cricketer Mr Anshuman Gaekwad, who is battling cancer".

"Shah has also spoken to Mr Gaekwad's family to take stock of the situation and extend support. The board stands by Gaekwad's family in this hour of crisis and will do whatever is essential for Mr Gaekwad's quick recovery," the statement continued.

"The BCCI will continue to monitor Mr Gaekwad's progress and is confident that he will come out of this phase strongly," it added.

According to the reports, Anshuman Gaekwad is currently undergoing blood cancer treatment at London's King's College Hospital.

A couple of days ago, in a conversation with Star Sports, Kapil Dev said former cricketers Mohinder Amarnath, Sunil Gavaskar, Sandeep Patil, Dilip Vengsarkar, Madan Lal, Ravi Shastri, and Kirti Azad contributed money for Gaekwad's treatment, and now it is time when World's richest cricket body needs to think about former players who served the nation and sport without any greed at the time when BCCI had no money.
