24-Year-Old Star's Big Statement On 'Team Environment' Under Gautam Gambhir
India's young T20 cricketers, including Abhishek Sharma, praised Gautam Gambhir after a decisive win against England. In first match at Eden Gardens, India chased down 133 runs in just 12.5 overs, winning by seven wickets. Abhishek scored an impressive 79 off 34 balls and credited the freedom given by captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gambhir for his performance.
Despite discussions about Gambhir's alignment with senior players during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Abhishek highlighted the positive dressing room atmosphere. "Never seen an environment like this, express yourself, hit your shots, even from the first ball," he said. He shared that his strategy was to play as he does in the IPL, staying deep in the crease to counter England's bowlers.

Freedom and Strategy
Abhishek explained his approach against Jofra Archer and Mark Wood involved using their pace to his advantage. "I practiced my trigger movements before the match," he noted. The pitch conditions were challenging, but India's bowlers performed well, making it easier for the batsmen to chase a target initially thought to be around 160-170 runs.
Suryakumar Yadav, India's captain, remarked on the team's energy after winning the toss. He emphasised the freedom given to players and how it contributed to their unique playing style. "Bowlers had plans, executed them well," he said. The team also benefited from Hardik Pandya's role with the new ball and Varun's preparation.
England's Approach
England's captain Jos Buttler spoke about their aggressive playing style under coach Brendon McCullum. "We want to be aggressive and watchable," Buttler stated. He expressed enjoyment working with McCullum and appreciated players like Jofra Archer and Mark Wood for their performances despite challenging pitch conditions early in the game.
The partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson was also noteworthy. Abhishek mentioned how they communicate effectively as batting partners, enhancing their performance on the field. This camaraderie was evident as they tackled England's bowling attack together.
The match showcased India's strategic planning and execution both in bowling and batting departments. The young players' ability to adapt quickly under Gambhir's guidance played a crucial role in their victory over England.
