Carlos Sainz Signs Two-Year Deal with Williams F1, Leaving Ferrari

Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz has signed a two-year contract to join Williams Racing. "Carlos will race alongside Alex Albon for Williams Racing for 2025 and into the new F1 regulations era as the formidable pairing look to spearhead the team's mission to return to the front of the grid," the team announced on Monday.

Sainz Moves to Williams F1

Williams Racing expressed gratitude towards Logan Sargeant for his contributions over the past two years. Sargeant, who became the first U.S. driver in 30 years to score a point by finishing 10th in Austin last year, played a crucial role in the team's development. "Williams will give Logan every support as he looks to continue his racing career for 2025 and into the future," the statement added.

Logan Sargeant's Contribution

Sargeant is notable for being the only American driver on the F1 grid and the first since 2015. His efforts have been pivotal in advancing Williams Racing's performance. The team acknowledged his dedication and hard work, which have been instrumental in their progress.

Spanish driver Sainz, aged 29, has an impressive record with three race victories, 23 podiums, and over 1,100 career points. He currently stands fifth in the rankings. This season, he became the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race by clinching victory at the Australian Grand Prix in March, just ten days after undergoing surgery for appendicitis. Additionally, he has secured four podium finishes this year.

Sainz's Perspective on Joining Williams

"It is no secret that this year's driver market has been exceptionally complex for various reasons and that it has taken me some time to announce my decision," Sainz stated. "However, I am fully confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey, and I am extremely proud of joining such a historic and successful team, where many of my childhood heroes drove in the past and made their mark on our sport."

Sainz also expressed his enthusiasm about contributing to Williams' goal of returning to the front of the grid. "The ultimate goal of bringing Williams back to where it belongs, at the front of the grid, is a challenge that I embrace with excitement and positivity. I am convinced that this team has all the right ingredients to make history again and, starting on Jan. 1, I will give my absolute best to drive Williams forward alongside every single member of the team."

Williams holds an option to extend Sainz's contract beyond 2026. This move signifies their commitment to building a competitive team capable of challenging at the highest level in Formula 1.

The addition of Sainz is seen as a strategic move by Williams Racing as they aim to enhance their performance under new F1 regulations. His experience and proven track record are expected to bring valuable insights and drive to the team.

As Williams Racing prepares for upcoming seasons, they remain focused on leveraging their drivers' strengths and fostering a competitive environment. The combination of Sainz's expertise and Albon's skills is anticipated to be a formidable force on the track.

This development marks an exciting phase for Williams Racing as they strive to reclaim their position among Formula 1's elite teams. With Sainz onboard, they are optimistic about achieving significant milestones in future races.
