Argentina and Egypt Secure Quarterfinal Spots in Olympic Men's Soccer

Thiago Almada's spectacular solo goal propelled Argentina to the quarterfinals of the Olympic men's football tournament with a 2-0 victory over Ukraine on Tuesday. Argentina's Path to Victory

Almada's goal was the highlight of the match. He collected the ball just past the halfway line, surged forward, and curled a shot past Ukraine's goalkeeper Kiril Fesiun from approximately 25 yards. Echeverri capitalised on a rebound to make it 2-0 after Fesiun made a late save.

Morocco also progressed by defeating Iraq 3-0 in Nice. This victory ensured their advancement alongside Argentina from their group. The top two teams from each of the four groups move forward to the quarterfinals.

Egypt Tops Group C

Ibrahim Adel scored twice as Egypt advanced to the men's football quarterfinals of the Paris Olympics by defeating Spain 2-1 on Tuesday. Spain had already secured a spot in the knockout round and aimed for first place in Group C but was overtaken by Egypt in Bordeaux.

Adel's first goal came from a cross by Zizo late in the first half. His second goal occurred in the 62nd minute when he manoeuvred around Spanish goalkeeper Alejandro Iturbe, who had come forward to intercept him. Samu Omorodion scored for Spain in the final moments of regulation, but their comeback attempt fell short.

Other Group C Results

In another Group C match, the Dominican Republic drew 1-1 with Uzbekistan, which had already been eliminated. Rafael Nunez scored on a penalty early in the second half to give the Dominican Republic an initial lead, but Alisher Odilov equalised in the 58th minute.

The draw was insufficient for the Dominican Republic to advance to the next round. The quarterfinal matchups will be determined after Wednesday's games conclude.
