Ruben Amorim Reflects on His Controversial Remarks About Manchester United's Performance
Ruben Amorim recently admitted he might have erred in labelling his team as "the worst, maybe, in the history of Manchester United." Despite this, Amorim remains candid about his views. "If you want, I can be delusional and say different things," he stated during a news conference. "I say it as I saw it. I said it to the players and I said to you," he told reporters.

Amorim's comments followed a 3-1 defeat to Brighton in the Premier League. This marked United's fourth loss in five home league games and their seventh defeat in 15 matches since Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November. The team currently sits 13th in the Premier League, closer to relegation than European qualification after 22 of 38 games.
Amorim's Honest Approach
Amorim clarified that he wasn't blaming his players for the team's struggles. "I am most responsible for the performances and the results," said the 39-year-old Portuguese coach. He acknowledged his youth and tendency to make mistakes, admitting that nerves might have influenced his remarks.
Ahead of United's Europa League clash with Rangers at Old Trafford, Amorim noted that playing at home made his players "more nervous" and "anxious," complicating their efforts to secure wins. "If you have a little inexperience when you fall into this type of context, it's hard to go up — especially when you are in a massive club," Amorim explained.
United is currently seventh in the revamped Europa League standings with three wins and three draws from six games. Each team plays eight matches, and the top eight advance directly to the last 16 without a playoff. Amorim remains committed to improving his communication while maintaining his honest approach.
Amorim emphasised that honesty is crucial for progress. "I think it's a good thing to be honest," he remarked. He suggested that if others preferred different narratives, he could provide them, but insisted on addressing issues openly. "Let's face it and work on it," he urged.
Despite acknowledging his mistake, Amorim doesn't promise to change entirely. He recognises that speaking out might sometimes lead to unintended consequences but remains focused on improving both himself and the team. His candidness reflects his commitment to transparency and accountability.
The coach's remarks highlight the challenges facing Manchester United under his leadership. With a mix of youthful enthusiasm and occasional missteps, Amorim aims to guide the team through its current difficulties while fostering an environment of honesty and growth.
Amorim's willingness to admit mistakes publicly underscores his dedication to learning from them. As Manchester United navigates its season, Amorim's approach may prove pivotal in addressing both on-field performance and off-field communication challenges.
