Pune Techie Rape Case: Accused Was Victim’s Friend, Took Selfie After Assault, Say Police

A significant development occurred on Friday when police detained a suspect linked to the alleged rape of a 22-year-old tech professional in Pune. Contrary to initial claims, the suspect was not unknown to the victim but was actually her friend, according to police reports. This arrest came two days after the woman accused a man of posing as a delivery executive and assaulting her.

The woman had initially claimed that a man pretending to be a delivery executive arrived at her home, insisting on obtaining her signature despite her not expecting any delivery. She alleged that he convinced her to open the door, forcibly entered, and assaulted her. She reported losing consciousness and regaining it only after he had left.

Police Investigation Reveals New Details

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar revealed that the woman herself took a selfie with the man and typed the message "I'll be back." The commissioner stated, "They know each other for a couple of years and belong to the same community." The investigation showed that no chemical spray was used to render her unconscious.

The suspect is described as a highly qualified professional. During the investigation, it emerged that the woman edited the selfie she took with him and added a threatening message. The police are still investigating why she made these allegations, as her mental state is currently unstable.

Allegations Under Scrutiny

The woman also informed police that before leaving, the accused clicked a photo using her phone and left a threatening note. He allegedly warned that he would release her pictures online if she reported the incident. However, authorities are still examining these claims as part of their ongoing investigation.

Commissioner Kumar mentioned, "We are still ascertaining why the victim made allegations of rape and it is still under investigation as the girl's mental state is not good at present." The case continues to unfold as investigators seek clarity on all aspects involved.
