Pune: Old Bridge Over Indrayani River Collapses Due To Heavy Rain: 5 Dead, Several Missing

A bridge over the Indrayani river in Pune's Talegaon area collapsed. This incident resulted in at least 15 to 20 people being swept away by the swift current. The bridge had been closed to vehicles due to its poor condition. However, many people had gathered on it to watch the rising river amid heavy rainfall.

Authorities have reported that around 15 to 20 individuals are feared missing following the collapse. Rescue operations are underway with local police and district administration teams working tirelessly. Efforts are being made to locate and save those who were swept away by the river.

Rescue Operations Underway

Initial reports suggest that the strong water current caused the bridge's collapse. In response, rescue and search operations have been launched urgently. Teams from various agencies are actively participating in these efforts to ensure the safety of those affected.

So far, five to six people have been successfully rescued from the river. The authorities are continuing their search for others who might still be missing. The situation remains critical as rescue teams work against time.

Emergency Services Deployed

A total of 15 ambulances have been dispatched to the site to assist with medical emergencies. These ambulances are on standby to provide immediate care to anyone rescued from the river or injured during the incident.

The old bridge had been in a deteriorating state for some time, leading to its closure for vehicular traffic. Despite this, people gathered on it due to curiosity about the swelling river caused by heavy rains.
