Pune MLA's Nephew Arrested After Speeding SUV Hits Bike, Killing 19-Year-Old
Road accidents have been on the rise, with hit-and-run cases becoming more frequent. In a tragic incident on Saturday night, a speeding SUV driven by Mayur Mohite, the nephew of Pune MLA Dilip Mohite Patil, collided with a two-wheeler on the Pune-Nashik highway. The accident resulted in the death of 19-year-old Om Sunil Bhalerao.
Mayur Mohite, 34, who is related to the MLA from the Khed Alandi assembly segment, has been arrested by the Manchar police. According to a police officer, the Toyota Fortuner driven by Mohite was on the wrong side of the road when it struck the bike head-on.

The police have registered a case and an investigation is underway. The legislator, Dilip Mohite Patil, from the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), stated that his nephew did not flee the accident scene and was not under the influence of alcohol.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another tragic accident involving a speeding Porsche. In that case, two 24-year-old software engineers lost their lives when a Porsche, allegedly driven by a 17-year-old, hit their bike.
The young driver, who was reportedly intoxicated, was released on bail within 15 hours, sparking national outrage. The Juvenile Justice Board later sent the teen to an observation home, and further investigations revealed attempts by the family to cover up the incident, leading to several arrests.
