Lata Mangeshkar backs Narendra Modi as PM, Cong plays it safe
Pune, Nov 2: Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar on Friday backed BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for the top job in the country. The 84-year-old singer said at the inauguration of a super-specialty hospital named after her father Dinanath Mangeshkar that all want to see Modi become the prime minister of India.
"On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, I hope our wishes would come true," she said. Modi was also present on the occasion.
The Gujarat chief minister returned the lavish praise with equally kind words, saying the Mangeshkars delighted crores with their divine voices and music.
The Congress, which has been targetting Modi on every second issue, however, showed restraint while reacting to Bharat Ratna awardee Mangeshkar's showering praise on Modi. Congress leader Digvijay Singh said in his tweet that the iconic singer can have her own political views.
The JD(U) said it was not the singer's fault for the BJP & Modi was fooling many
JD(U) leader Shivanand Tiwari said he respects Lata Mangeshkar, although mentioned that it is not the fault of the veteran singer for many people are being fooled with the BJP and Modi. The JD(U) ended its 17-year-old alliance with the BJP after the latter decided to make Modi the head of uts electoral campaign in June.
