World Space Week celebrations at Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science
Chennai, Oct 07: Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science, Chennai, a pioneer institution in Aeronautical and Aerospace education, hosts a three-day World Space Week celebration in association with ISRO - Satish Dhawan Space Center, SHAR, Sriharikota from 7th - 9th October 2022.

The World Space Week is celebrated across 70 countries worldwide to enthuse the international community towards application of Space Technology for humankind. World Space Week Association has chosen the theme "Space and Sustainability", focusing on achieving sustainability in space.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Guest Thiru. Anbil Mahesh Poyyamazhi, Hon'ble Minister for School Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu; Guest of Honour Dr.Venkatraman, Associate Director, SDSC-SHAR, ISRO; Dr. S.N. Sridhara, Vice-Chancellor, HITS; Dr. Aby Sam, Director, HITS; and Dr. A. Sivathanu Pillai, Former CEO & MD, BrahMos Aerospace & Professor Emeritus (Research), HITS along with executives/scientists from SDSC-SHAR. During this ceremony, the World Space Week booklet was also launched by the dignitaries.
Chief Guest Thiru Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, Hon'ble Minister for School Education, Govt. of Tamil Nadu, in his speech congratulated HITS for putting hands together with SDSC, SHAR, ISRO for celebrating the World Space Week 2022. He also extolled the challenges and hardships endured by ISRO which has resulted in successful endeavours. He affirmed that India will become unstoppable in the field of Space Research & Exploration. The Minister urged the students to pursue their passion in the field of Space Exploration and Satellite Technology.
The Guest of Honour, Dr. R. Venkatraman, Associate Director, SDSC-SHAR addressed the audience where he professed that the core of space research and exploration lies in the quest for the unknown. In this Herculean feat of Space Exploration, India has faced several challenges and has overcome them with extra-ordinary results which galvanized today's youth to take interest in the field of Space Technology. He concluded his speech by congratulating HITS for organizing this event and motivating the students to join ISRO in the future.
Many competitions like written quiz, drawing, poster painting, extempore, live model exhibit and drone shows are organized for schools and colleges. The activities of ISRO from its inception to future projects along with rocket models are shown to public by SDSC-SHAR team and projects by HITS students on Space Technology are also displayed at the ISRO Exhibition.
All students and public can utilise this opportunity by actively participating in the above programme at HITS, Padur campus from 7th to 9th October and get benefited by this outreach programme of ISRO, SDSC-SHAR. A total of 5000 students from various schools and colleges have been invited for world space week celebrations & ISRO Exhibition.
