Three Years of Dhami Government In Uttarakhand: CM Vows To Preserve The State’s Spiritual Identity

As the Pushkar Singh Dhami-led government completes three years, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the people and highlighted key governance achievements at a recent event.

Breaking the Political Trend in Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami

Speaking at the Times Now Summit 2025, CM Dhami pointed out that for the first time in the state's history, the 2022 assembly elections defied the long-standing trend of regime change every five years. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the BJP retained power, breaking the electoral myth and setting a new precedent.

Commitment to Preserving Devbhoomi's Essence

Dhami emphasised that Uttarakhand holds spiritual significance as the land of the Ganga, Kailash and Char Dham. With 71% forest cover, the state remains committed to environmental conservation, water resources and sustainable development while ensuring its sacred identity remains intact.

Implementation of Uniform Civil Code (UCC)

Fulfilling its 2022 election promise, Uttarakhand became the first Indian state to implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) on January 27, 2025. Dhami dismissed concerns over its implementation, stating that opposition to UCC stems from political appeasement. He reaffirmed that the law ensures 100% legal protection for women, constituting 50% of the population.

Regulating Live-In Relationships

The CM remarked that live-in relationships are not part of Indian culture. To address rising incidents of crime linked to such relationships, the government has mandated that individuals in live-in relationships inform their parents, with official records maintained for security reasons.

Crackdown on Illegal Encroachments and Religious Structures

Uttarakhand has launched a campaign against illegal religious encroachments, reclaiming 6,000 acres of encroached land. Dhami labeled unauthorised shrines on government and forest lands as land jihad, affirming that encroachments will not be tolerated. The state has also acted against illegal madrasas, identifying and shutting down those involved in dubious activities.

Law and Order: A Key Priority

The government has taken strict measures against forced religious conversions, love jihad and other unlawful activities, ensuring Uttarakhand remains a safe and law-abiding state. The crackdown on exam fraud has restored trust in government recruitment, with over 20,000 jobs provided in three years without legal disputes.

Ensuring a Secure Char Dham Yatra

Recognising the demographic changes and rising number of Rohingya migrants, Dhami reiterated his commitment to law enforcement. The Char Dham Yatra is being regulated to preserve its sanctity, with strict measures against unauthorized activities like social media reels that could disrupt the pilgrimage's spiritual environment.
