Patna’s Traffic Woes to End? CM Nitish Kumar Unveils Master Plan
Commuters in Patna will soon experience smoother traffic movement as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar unveils a comprehensive master plan to ease congestion across the capital and surrounding districts. The initiative aims to eliminate long traffic snarls, reduce fuel wastage, and save valuable commuting time.
As part of his Pragati Yatra, the CM has announced several major projects in Patna, Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, Bhojpur, and Nalanda, including road widening, new flyovers, bridges, alternative routes, and underground power and drainage systems.

Key Initiatives to Improve Traffic Flow
The Danapur-Nehru Path to Gola Road stretch will be widened to ease congestion in Danapur and Bailey Road. Additionally, the JP Ganga Path extension from Koilwar to Mokama will provide a bypass for vehicles entering Patna from the outskirts. The Patna-Gaya Road will be connected via the Sadikpur-Pabheda-Masaurhi route, reducing traffic pressure on main roads and providing a smoother route for commuters traveling to Gaya and Jehanabad.
Traffic Solutions for Other Districts
Apart from Patna, the government has also planned infrastructure upgrades in neighboring districts:
Buxar: The modernization of Ramrekha Ghat and new road developments will improve access to this important religious site.
Rohtas & Kaimur: Expansion of the Karghar-Barhari-Dharmapura Road and a water supply project from the Son River will enhance regional connectivity.
Bhojpur: A new Koilwar-Arrah road will serve as an alternative route, helping to reduce congestion.
Nalanda: Tourism and transportation improvements in Rajgir include a new ropeway, eco-tourism center, and resort, making travel more convenient for visitors.
New Flyovers and Bridges to Decongest City Roads
The construction of new flyovers and bridges will further ease bottlenecks in and around Patna. A missing link road will connect Punpun Station to Patna Ring Road, reducing congestion near Punpun. Additionally, bridges over the Dhoba River in Bakhtiyarpur and the Morhar River in Punpun will provide better connectivity between rural areas and major cities.
Underground Drainage & Power Lines to Ease Urban Traffic
To tackle waterlogging-related traffic issues, an underground drainage system will be developed along Nehru Path. The Rajiv Nagar and Anandpuri drainage networks will be reinforced, with roads built over them to prevent traffic disruptions during the monsoon. The government also plans to place overhead power lines underground, eliminating obstructions caused by electric poles and tangled wires.
Proposed Greenfield Airport to Reduce Traffic Load
The state government will request the central government for a new international Greenfield Airport in Patna. This will help ease congestion at Jay Prakash Narayan Airport and reduce the city's vehicular traffic burden.
Transforming Patna's Traffic Infrastructure
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar emphasized that these initiatives will modernize Patna and its surrounding districts, making them traffic-free and well-organized. The projects are expected to significantly improve commuting conditions, boost economic development, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Once completed, these upgrades will mark a major transformation in Bihar's urban and regional connectivity, paving the way for faster and smoother travel across the state.
