Over 1 Million Jeevika Didis Lead Bihar’s Healthcare Revolution

The Bihar government's Jeevika Project has emerged as a game-changer in empowering women and enhancing healthcare services across the state. Launched in 2006, the initiative has enabled over 1 million Jeevika Didis to actively contribute to the healthcare sector. These women serve as Swasthya Mitras (health assistants), manage Jan Aushadhi Kendras, and promote health awareness in both urban and rural areas.

With the dedicated efforts of Jeevika Didis, 45 health assistance centers have been established across Bihar. These centers provide critical healthcare support to communities, ensuring better accessibility and affordability.

A significant achievement of the project is the operation of Prime Minister Jan Aushadhi Kendras in major hospitals, including Sitamarhi, Nalanda, and Gopalganj Sadar Hospitals. These centers offer affordable, high-quality medicines to the public, reducing medical expenses for thousands of families.

In addition, Jeevika Didis have played a crucial role in menstrual hygiene initiatives. A plant-based organic sanitary napkin manufacturing unit has been set up in Buxar, offering a sustainable alternative to commercial sanitary products.

As of now, the project has facilitated the formation of over 1.063 million self-help groups, positively affecting more than 13.5 million families across Bihar.

Success Story: Manisha Kumari's Journey
