Former Hockey Star Mirranjan Negi Praises Food Quality At National Games
Mirranjan Negi, a former goalkeeper for the Indian hockey team and known for his role in "Chak De India," has commended the food quality at the National Games in Uttarakhand. He noted that the purity and nutrition of the meals provided to players and staff are exceptional. Negi mentioned that such standards are uncommon at major sporting events.
Negi emphasised the importance of nutritious food for athletes, stating that poor quality could impact their performance. He praised the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department for their diligent efforts in maintaining food standards. Regular checks ensure that every meal meets quality requirements, safeguarding athletes' health.

Ensuring Quality and Nutrition
Ganesh Chandra Kandwal, nodal officer for the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department at the National Games, shared insights into their operations. Eighteen teams have been deployed to oversee food hygiene, quality, and nutrition during the event. This comprehensive approach ensures that all meals meet established standards.
SOPs have been implemented for hotels accommodating players and for food served at venues. These guidelines help maintain consistent quality across all locations. Additionally, a mobile team is actively monitoring food quality throughout the games, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Incorporating Local Flavours
The inclusion of local products in meals adds a unique touch to the culinary offerings at the National Games. This not only supports local producers but also introduces athletes to regional flavours. Such initiatives highlight a commitment to both quality and cultural appreciation.
The meticulous planning by the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department reflects a dedication to athlete welfare. By prioritising nutrition and hygiene, they contribute significantly to the success of the National Games in Uttarakhand.
