This tragic incident, which occurred three days ago, saw a total of 54 individuals trapped under the snow. Thanks to swift action, 46 people were successfully rescued, although, regrettably, the bodies of eight victims were recovered.

The prompt intervention of the administration, along with the active involvement of the army, proved crucial in this rescue operation. Under CM Dhami's leadership, rescue efforts commenced without delay, ensuring that many lives were saved. He maintained a continuous watch over the situation, issuing clear directives to all relevant departments to work with utmost efficiency.

Despite adverse weather conditions and initial resistance from officials, CM Dhami personally travelled to the disaster site to oversee relief efforts. He instructed authorities to provide immediate medical assistance and relief support to every rescued individual. His direct involvement also ensured that two critically injured workers were swiftly referred to a higher medical facility for specialised treatment.

Experience Shaping Effective Disaster Management

Under CM Dhami's leadership, Uttarakhand has made notable progress in disaster management in recent years. The government's efficiency was evident in its handling of major crises such as the Silkyara Tunnel incident, floods in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, and the Joshimath landslides. On each occasion, CM Dhami personally visited the disaster site to supervise relief operations. This proactive governance and experience have strengthened the state's ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.

Coordinated Efforts with Central Government Support

The rescue operation saw commendable bravery from personnel of the NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, and the army. With robust support from the central government, relief efforts were conducted with great urgency. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah expressed their concern over the disaster, assuring Uttarakhand of all necessary assistance. Special relief teams and additional resources were promptly dispatched by the central government, further expediting the rescue mission. Whenever helicopters from the Air Force were required, they were made available without delay, significantly accelerating relief efforts.

Uttarakhand's New Approach to Disaster Management

Following the successful completion of the rescue operation, CM Dhami praised the efforts of the relief teams and reaffirmed the government's commitment to disaster preparedness. He emphasised that disaster response and relief remain top priorities for the state, with continuous support from the central government playing a vital role in enhancing these efforts.

The efficient disaster management strategies of Uttarakhand's 'Double Engine Government,' combined with coordinated administrative efforts and CM Dhami's decisive leadership, have demonstrated the state's unwavering commitment to safeguarding its citizens in times of crisis. These proactive measures are shaping a new, more resilient disaster management framework in Uttarakhand.

Learning from Every Disaster

Over recent years, Uttarakhand has faced multiple natural disasters, including the Maldevta catastrophe in 2022, the Joshimath landslide in 2023, floods in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, the Silkyara Tunnel rescue, the Kedarnath disaster in July 2024, and the Mana avalanche in 2025. On each occasion, the administration, under CM Dhami's leadership, has responded with efficiency and innovation. These experiences, coupled with his proactive governance, have helped reduce the overall impact of such disasters compared to previous administrations.

Additionally, the state government continues to prioritise preventive measures, such as tackling forest fires, with the assistance of the armed forces. Through its strategic planning and determined leadership, Uttarakhand is steadily reinforcing its position as a state well-equipped to handle any crisis with resilience and effectiveness.
