BSF Constable Mithun Mandal Makes Supreme Sacrifice in Manipur

Constable Mithun Mandal of 'A' Company, 170 Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF), laid down his life in the line of duty on April 10, 2026, in Ukhrul district of Manipur. He sustained a bullet injury to his left shoulder while carrying out Road Opening Party (ROP) duty during a fierce exchange of fire between Tangkhul Naga and Kuki groups at Mongkot Chepu village under Litan police station.

He was immediately evacuated to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Honouring his sacrifice, a wreath-laying ceremony with full force honours was held on April 11 at Imphal Airport between 1:00 pm and 1:50 pm. The ceremony was organised by BSF Sector Headquarters Manipur and attended by around 200 personnel, including senior officers and jawans.

Among those present to pay their respects were Manipur Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh, Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, and Director General of Police Rajiv Singh, along with other senior officials. Floral tributes were offered as the force bid a solemn farewell with full military honours.

The mortal remains of the brave constable were later sent to his native place for final rites.

The BSF expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and reiterated its steadfast commitment to maintaining peace and security. Constable Mithun Mandal's courage, dedication, and supreme sacrifice will be remembered with immense pride and gratitude.
