Patna HC orders District Judge to set his daughter free

Patna, July 13: The Patna High Court ordered to set free a law graduate who is under house arrest by her parents in the capital city. A District Judge based in Bihar and his wife had placed their major daughter under house arrest after coming to know of her relationship with a Delhi-based advocate.

After taking cognizance of a Bar & Bench news report on the detention of the girl, the Patna High Court on Thursday ordered that she be set free to do as she chooses.

Initial efforts made by the advocate to free the woman through appeals before various channels including Union Ministry representatives and the police yielded little result.

However, letters penned by the woman shared through the NGO Love Commandos, and with the media bore testimony to her illegal detention.

As first reported by NewsCentral, the judge and his wife even went so far as to physically assault their daughter, while her lover was left to listen to her cries over the phone.

Father of the girl, Subhash Chandra Chaurasia, is a District and Sessions Judge from Khagaria district. A graduate of the Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, the woman confirmed to Bar & Bench that she was being confined at home by her parents.
