Ex-Captain Ritu Kumar Singh shares her insights and experiences juggling between her career and motherhood
Every woman in their life span dons many a role. Beginning her life as a daughter, as a sister, then being a wife and a mother. With every role, it is perceived that women would perform the best always. The stereotypical norms of society have enforced women with some unsaid responsibilities which she has to fulfill. And in the quest of becoming the perfect mother and wife, they neglect their physical and mental health the most.

While motherhood is certainly one of the most wonderful feelings for any woman, it comes with many ups and downs. The journey of pregnancy is not a cakewalk and a woman goes through a haywire of emotions in this period of life. From physical changes to taking care of the baby while dealing with pain, anxiety, and responsibility, it is a herculean task for every mother to strike the right balance between her career and motherhood.
Ex-Captain Ritu Kumar Singh, who proudly wore the uniform of the Indian Army strongly believes in prioritizing a mother's health. As a strong woman herself who carried her profession with so much elegance and pride, even she went through an emotional upheaval during her pre and post-pregnancy period. She could witness how she was weakening gradually to keep her mental and physical health in check. Suffering from postpartum depression and also gaining excessive weight, demotivated Ritu and she was unable to handle so many changes in her body.
However, she made sure to take charge of her physical health and focused on fitness. With consistent hard work and zeal, she became the fitter version of herself. During her second pregnancy, she ensured to keep her weight in check, by having a balanced diet and nutrition and constantly working out. But, to Ritu's surprise even after 6 months of her delivery, she could see the belly fat which did not reduce. It is during that time that she discovered that she has Diastasis Recti which 80% of women are not aware of.
Post-pregnancy belly fat is a very common issue found in many women and many women find it difficult to deal with the physical changes in their appearance. Along with handling her babies and health, this often leads to anxiety and depression. When Ritu came across this issue, she was dedicated to bringing a solution to every mother suffering from this condition. She wanted to ensure that every mother overcomes the obstacles of post-pregnancy changes and becomes a healthier version of themselves.
Today, Ritu is an accomplished fitness trainer who has created a non-judgemental platform called "Fit Moms, Fitter Homes" where women from across fields can come and share their experiences and troubles without any inhibition. A certified trainer focusing on pre and post-natal exercises and Diastasis Recti repair, Ritu has trained more than 1000 women to be fit and healthy.
Having been through a tumultuous journey herself, Ritu is on a mission to guide and train every new mom on how they should take charge of their own health. She educates them with the right information on how can they lead a healthy lifestyle.
From serving proudly as an Indian Army Officer to now reaching the goals of making every mom and their home fit, Ritu's journey has been an incredible one. With resilience, perseverance, and the spirit of never giving up, Ritu has paved a new path for every woman.
