A Milestone Moment: FIA’s 42nd Dance Pe Chance Brings 870 Children Together Battling Subzero wind chills

The Federation of Indian Associations organised the 43rd Dance Pe Chance event in Trenton, New Jersey, featuring nearly 870 performers. Celebrating India’s 77th Republic Day, the competition showcased classical and Bollywood dance styles to 2,200 attendees. Distinguished guests included Ambassador Binaya S. Pradhan and actress Padmini Kolhapure, highlighting the cultural heritage of the Indian American community.

Trenton, NJ: The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA-NY-NJ-CT-NE) successfully presented the 42nd Edition of its flagship cultural event, Dance Pe Chance (DPC), on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Patriots Theatre at the War Memorial in Trenton, New Jersey. Held in celebration of India’s 77th Republic Day and the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, the sold-out event reaffirmed DPC’s standing as one of the largest and most prestigious Indian American dance competitions in the United States.

The evening welcomed over 2,200 attendees, including dignitaries, community leaders, and cultural enthusiasts, who were treated to an extraordinary showcase of rhythm, creativity, and cultural tradition inspired by Indian classical, folk, Bollywood, and contemporary dance forms. The program opened with the national anthems, followed by presentations highlighting FIA’s mission and accomplishments. DPC Chair Ms Priti Ray-Patel reflected on the four-decade legacy of Dance Pe Chance, while FIA President Mr Sreekanth Akkapalli outlined key milestones of the year and emphasized the vital role of volunteers. FIA Chairman Mr Ankur Vaidya spoke about FIA’s continued growth as a unifying force for the Indian diaspora.

A special highlight of the evening was the Oath Ceremony for FIA’s 2026 Executive Committee, administered by Hon. Consul General of India, Amb. Binaya S. Pradhan. In his address, Amb. Binaya Pradhan commended FIA for continuously elevating the scale and impact of the event and outlined expanded consular services available to meet the evolving needs of the Indian diaspora. Hon. Deputy Consul General-NY Vishal J Harsh also graced the occasion, extending his support to the community and acknowledging FIA's continued commitment to cultural preservation and diaspora engagement.

The competition was judged by a distinguished panel featuring legendary actress Padmini Kolhapure, renowned choreographer Supriya Doshi, and acclaimed classical dance exponent Antima Chakraborty, whose expert insights encouraged participants to push creative and artistic boundaries. The event was masterfully hosted by Emcee, Ms. Mamta Narula and Ms Srishti Narula, who kept audiences engaged throughout the evening. This year’s edition featured nearly 870 performers from 18 premier dance academies, presenting 31 captivating performances across Minor, Junior, Senior, and Adult categories.

Performers delivered a powerful fusion of traditional and modern dance styles, reflecting India’s rich cultural heritage while embracing contemporary expression. Broadway-style production elements—including a massive LED backdrop, immersive lighting, and elaborate costumes-enhanced the storytelling and transformed the stage into a visually spectacular experience. During the grand finale, over 100 dedicated volunteers were recognized for their contributions, followed by the much-anticipated awards ceremony honoring winners in categories such as Best Choreography, Thematic Innovation, and Outstanding Spirit. As the curtains closed, FIA leadership reaffirmed that Dance Pe Chance continues to serve as a bridge between generations, fostering cultural pride, youth leadership, and artistic excellence within the Indian American community.

Planning is already underway for the 44th Edition in 2027, promising an even more spectacular celebration.
