Chaos In Paradise: Goa On Red Alert As Rain Triggers Landslides And Traffic Chaos
Goa faces severe challenges as relentless rainfall wreaks havoc, disrupting daily life and causing extensive damage across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised the alarm, issuing a red alert for today and tomorrow, with predictions of heavy to very heavy rainfall and strong surface winds affecting both North and South Goa. An orange alert remains in force from July 20 to 22, compounding concerns for residents and authorities alike.
In Paroda, the Quepem-Margao road stands submerged, bringing traffic to a standstill. At Rayesh Housing Society in Fatorda, a fresh landslide and subsequent wall collapse have severely impacted three apartments, adding to the woes of residents already reeling from previous structural failures. Landslides at Anmod Ghat have further obstructed travel routes since early morning.

In a harrowing incident in Konem-Farmagudi, a falling tree struck a moving car, fortunately resulting in no injuries but exacerbating traffic disruptions. Meanwhile, the collapse of a segment of the Keri-Khede-Savoi road in Ponda has necessitated its closure, compounding the traffic chaos. Additionally, the collapse of a section of the wall at Mount Carmel Church in Ponda underscores the structural risks posed by the ongoing inclement weather.
The IMD, in collaboration with the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Service (INCOIS), has also issued a high wave alert along Goa's coast, particularly from Chapora to Panaji (Malim), urging caution among coastal communities and fishermen.
As the situation unfolds, local authorities and emergency services remain on high alert, working tirelessly to mitigate the impact of these devastating rains on Goa's residents and infrastructure.
