Won't be possible to provide security to IPL due to polls: Shinde

IPL be shifted due to elections
New Delhi, Feb 21: The Union Home Ministry on Friday said that it would not be possible to provide security to the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament this year because of the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde announced this.

If the IPL is shifted to some other country, it won't be something new. In 2009, the second edition of the annual cricket tournament was shifted to South Africa after its timing clashed with the general election.

The BCCI had announced earlier that South Africa was one of the options this time as well if the tournament is not to be held in India.

The final decision is likely to be taken at the IPL governing council meeting February 28 at Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
