Who Is Kailash Gahlot, Senior Delhi Minister Who Resigned From AAP?

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) faced a significant setback just months ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections with the resignation of senior leader Kailash Gahlot.

In his resignation letter, Gahlot pointed to AAP's "serious challenges" and referenced "awkward" controversies.

Key facts about Kailash Gahlot:

1. Kailash Gahlot, a long-time AAP leader, serves as a Cabinet minister in the Delhi government, overseeing the portfolios of Administrative Reforms, Transport, Home, Women and Child Development, and Information Technology.

2. He won his first election to the Delhi Legislative Assembly in February 2015, representing the Najafgarh constituency.

3. Born in 1974, Gahlot hails from Mitraun village in Najafgarh, where his family has resided for over nine generations.

4. Gahlot is also a qualified advocate, practising in the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court for over 16 years. He served as a Member of the Executive in the Bar Association of the High Court of Delhi from 2005 to 2007.

5. In 2018, Gahlot was investigated by the Income Tax (IT) Department, which conducted searches at several properties linked to him in connection with an alleged tax evasion case.
