UPA trying to tax Narendra Modi's rallies: Arun Jaitley

-led UPA government has devised a new way to tackle NDA's prime ministerial candidate

. According to him, the government has proposed to impose

on Modi's election rallies and try to increase revenues for the economy which is not in the best of shape.

Jaitley said the Congress's campaign against Modi has failed to produce any result so far and now it has thought out a"curious" but "absurd" method to deal with the rival leader.

Jaitley said the Congress has devised this way after failing to stop Modi

"Narendra Modi is indeed a problem for the Congress Party. It is precisely for this reason that the Congress/UPA has used every method, fair or foul to counter him. They are still at sea how to deal with him," Jaitley said in his blog.

The BJP leader said a letter which was issued by the Directorate General of Central Excise and Intelligence to the BJP and its Chandigarh office on February 12. "The notice mentions "as the entry tickets to the event were not for any admission to any entertainment event or access to amusement facilities (which are in the negative list) the same is taxable in the hands of the person collecting the amount of tickets. It appears that the BJP/Shri Narendra Modi has (sic.) neither got registered under the Service Tax nor paid tax on collection from tickets," Jaitley said.
