Uber rape case: She fought for Nirbhaya but paid the price

New Delhi, Dec 12: She was shocked after the Nirbhaya gangrape case and was at India Gate and Jantar Mantar protesting against the heinous act. Little did she realise that one day, she too would be a victim of a similar incident.

The woman, who was raped by the Uber taxi driver on Dec 5 was a part of the demonstrations and protests that were held in Dec 2012 after the Nirbhaya case, her father said. Speaking to Indian Express, the victim's father said that she was one of the thousand protestors who demonstrated in the capital post Dec 16 gangrape case.

She used to take leave from her office and go to India Gate and Jantar Mantar to be a part of the protests because she felt for the cause, said her father. Even her father accompanied her on several occassions to be a part of the protests.

The woman's father said that he was happy with the Delhi Police and that the accused was nabbed within 24 hours.
