Trinamool rejects MP's words againt Sushma Swaraj, says that's his personal take

New Delhi, June 16: The Trinamool Congress (TMC), which was going all out against the BJP even a few days ago, suddenly placed itself in support of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj over the Lalit Modi issue, irrespective of its senior MP Saugata Ray's remark against the minister.

On Sunday, Ray told an all-India channel that Swaraj didn't do it right to help somebody accused of indulging in corruption and she should resign as the minister. Other opposition parties like the Congress and Left also targetted the BJP minister.

But to everyone's surprise, the TMC leadership distanced itself with Ray's remarks within 24 hours, saying it was his personal take on the matter. Party's leader in the Rajya Sabha and chief national spokesperson Derek O'Brien said Roy expressed his own opinion, something he has done in the past as well without consulting the party. He said the party is yet to discuss the matter.

The CPI(M) mocked the TMC over the episode. Party MP Mohammad Salim said the TMC now has to depend on PM Narendra Modi to get saved in the Saradha chitfund scam. It was said that the BJP, too, was dependent on the TMC in passing bill in the Rajya Sabha.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is known to share a good relation with Sushma Swaraj.
