Terror attack in Parliament: 12th anniversary observed
New Delhi, Dec 13: Top political leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday paid tributes to the heroes who were martyred during a deadly terror attack on the Indian Parliament 12 years ago.
On December 13, 2001, five terrorists entered the premises of the Parliament and started indiscriminate firing.
Twelve persons, including six security personnel, four Delhi Police personnel and one each from the CRPF and Parliament security staff were killed. All the terrorists were also killed. A gardener was also killed. Eighteen persons were injured.
Twelve persons were killed in the deadly terror attack
The terrorists came to the Parliament House in a car bearing the sticker of the home ministry and Parliament labels. Both the houses of the Parliament were adjourned just before the attack took place but many MPs and government officials were still in the building. Constable Kamlesh Kumari was the first to spot the terrorists.
The prime accused in the attack, Afzal Guru, was hanged in top secrecy in Tihar Jail in February this year and was buried in the jail complex.
