Reports: Manmohan Singh unlikely to attend the CHOGM summit

New Delhi, Nov 8: According to reports, Prime Minister

is unlikely to attend the CHOGM summit in the view of the strong sentiments in Tamil Nadu against the visit.

Singh met the leaders of the Congress at his residence on Friday morning and the outcome of the meeting was a view that felt that it would be difficult for Singh to visit Sri Lanka at this point.

The meeting took notice of the fact that all political parties in Tamil Nadu were opposed to the CHOGM in Sri Lanka. A final decision is yet to be taken. It could take a day or two for the government to decide.

Parties in Tamil Nadu opposed India's participation in the CHOGM alleging that the Sri Lankan government had committed a violation of human rights on the Tamils in the region.
