Relief For Slum Clusters In Delhi As CM Rekha Gupta Sanctions ₹327 Crore Infrastructure Projects

The Delhi government has approved development projects worth ₹327 crore aimed at improving basic infrastructure and civic amenities in jhuggi clusters across the capital.

Of the total amount, works worth ₹144 crore have already been allocated, marking a significant push towards upgrading living conditions in informal settlements.

Major Infrastructure Push for Jhuggi Areas

The approved projects include the construction of new public toilets, repair and redevelopment of internal roads and lanes, and the creation of essential public utility infrastructure. According to official details, administrative approval has been granted for 476 works related to public convenience complexes at a cost of ₹225 crore. Out of these, 214 projects amounting to ₹81 crore have already been allotted.

In addition, 254 road and lane-related works have received administrative approval worth ₹102 crore, with projects worth ₹63 crore already sanctioned for execution across 172 locations.

CM Rekha Gupta's Republic Day Outreach

On the occasion of Republic Day, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta interacted with representatives from jhuggi clusters at her official residence, Jan Seva Sadan. During the interaction, she announced several schemes for their respective areas and acknowledged the contribution of jhuggi residents to Delhi's growth.

She stated that people living in jhuggi clusters have played an important role in the city's development, but previous governments viewed them only as a vote bank. The current government, she said, is committed to providing them dignity along with better civic facilities.

Highlighting a contrast in governance approach, the Chief Minister said that while earlier leadership lived in lavish residences worth crores, the present government considers public struggles as its own and remains dedicated to serving citizens day and night.

Budget Allocation and Welfare Initiatives

The Delhi government has earmarked ₹700 crore in the budget specifically for jhuggi development. Several dedicated welfare facilities are being expanded, including Atal Canteens, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and services focused on healthcare and nutrition for vulnerable communities.

Referring to the political alignment at the Centre and in the state, the Chief Minister said that Delhi is now functioning under a BJP-led double-engine government. She reiterated the government's commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas".

Ministers and Officials Present

The Chief Minister also shared lunch with representatives from jhuggi clusters during the event. Delhi government minister Ashish Sood, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board CEO Rupesh Thakur were present on the occasion, along with other officials.

The government has said that work execution will be closely monitored to ensure timely completion and effective delivery of services to residents in jhuggi settlements across Delhi.
