Rekha Gupta to Launch Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, Empowering Women on Women’s Day

The Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is set to launch the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana along with a scheme for free LPG cylinders during Holi and Diwali on Saturday, Women's Day. The official announcement will take place at a special Mahila Diwas programme at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, with BJP president JP Nadda and other senior leaders in attendance.

As part of its election promises, the BJP had pledged to provide ₹2,500 per month to women from economically weaker backgrounds under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. Now, with the government in place, the Delhi Cabinet is expected to approve the scheme in its meeting on Saturday, after which the rollout will begin. Officials estimate that around 15 to 20 lakh women will benefit from this initiative.

The government is also working on an online portal for registrations to ensure a smooth and transparent process. The IT department is integrating various databases to verify eligibility and make sure only deserving beneficiaries receive the aid. The income eligibility is likely to be capped at ₹2.5 lakh per year for women aged 18 to 60 years.

This scheme follows similar programs launched in other BJP-ruled states, such as Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh and Ladki Bahin Yojana in Maharashtra. The Delhi government plans to increase the budget for the scheme in the next financial year to include all eligible women.

Meanwhile, AAP has criticized the BJP for not implementing the scheme in the first Cabinet meeting as promised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Opposition leader Atishi wrote to CM Rekha Gupta, urging her to ensure the immediate transfer of ₹2,500 to women's accounts. With Women's Day just around the corner, she said, women across Delhi are waiting for the promise to be fulfilled.

With the much-awaited launch happening on Saturday, thousands of women in Delhi are hopeful that financial support will soon reach them, giving them a much-needed boost towards economic stability.
