Rahul Gandhi: MNREGA provides a floor for the poor

New Delhi, Jan 30: Speaking to people in an interactive session in Delhi, Congress Vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that he was learning a lot from these interactive sessions that he was having across the country.

Rahul Gandhi has been holding interactive sessions across the country, an attempt to maximise participation from the people in order to strenghten the Congress's election manifesto. "We will draft the manifesto after taking everybody's suggestion into consideration," he said.

There needs to be a certainity in education, health, employment and this needs to be provided to all the people, he said. "MNREGA provides a floor for the poor, below which they cannot go," he said.

Amidst many suggestions, some suggested that there should be social security number for all in the country, others suggested that people must be given the right to open bank accounts.

Speaking to the members of the unorganised sector he said that the main problem was that there was no way that people's power was prevalent in the Parliament. "Our selection of candidate will be completely transparent so that your voice will be heard in the parliament," he said.
