Promotion of UPA's Bharat Nirman policy earns news channels big bucks

According to an RTI filed by media news portal NewsLaundry.com, the Directorate of Audio Visual Publicity (DAVP) has revealed that the UPA government spent Rs 78.01 crore on television news channels to promote its 'Bharat Nirman' policy.

According to the RTI, four news channels- Times Now, Headlines Today, NDTV and CNN-IBN have received Rs 9.6 million of ad revenue that spreads across seven months. Among the four channels, CNN-IBN got the maximum revenue whereas Headlines Today got the least.
While CNN-IBN managed to get Rs 3.07 million as ad expenditure, NDTV received Rs 2.5 million, Times Now received Rs 2.46 million and Headlines Today received Rs 1.5 million.
As per the information given by the DAVP, the government has spent approximately Rs 9.6 million on English news channels from April 1 to November 7.
