PM Narendra Modi becomes third-most followed leader on Twitter

New Delhi, July 3: Prime Minister

overtook Indonesian President

on Thursday to become the third most followed world leader. Only US President

(43.9 million) and the Pope (14.1 million) have more followers than him.

Modi now has 5,087,980 followers to Yudoyuno's 5,087,435 followers. Modi is also the second-most popular leader on the Facebook with 8 million followers.

Modi's twitter handle @narendramodi handle has seen an addition of over a million followers since his win in this year's Lok Sabha election while his newly acquired official @PMOIndia grew 40% since his swearing-in on May 26. His election victory Tweet was the most retweeted tweet from India of all time. It was retweeted 70,557 times.

The White House is in the fifth place with 5.01 million followers.
