PM Modi on terrorists' radar, security being tightened at South Block

New Delhi, Aug 28: Security has been beefed up in the South Block which houses the office of the prime minister of India after intelligence inputs alerted about a probable attack on lines of the 26/11 terror strike in Mumbai.

According to a report published in Bengali daily Anandabazaar Patrika, intelligence agencies had raised the alarm ahead of the Independence Day that the South Block is on the terrorists' radar and the security has subsequently been beefed up. According to the report, the entire area behind the South Block would be surrounded with iron fence and high vigilance points would be set up in the area. Those people or vehicles advancing towards the South Block would be checked fully.

Security measures are being upgraded with the NSA's inputs, the report said

Sources in the government said advice has been sought from National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to upgrade the security for Modi, the daily report said.

The security agencies are also thinking of increasing security in the PM's convoy. However, Modi himself is not in favour of increasing the number of cars in his convoy. In that case, the security agencies are thinking of replacing old vehicles in the convoy with new ones.

Narendra Modi has been on the Pakistan-backed terrorist's radar since his days as the chief minister of Gujarat. Two other top BJP leaders are also in the hit list, the report said.
