Over 800 million people will vote in Lok Sabha elections 2014

EC brings out voter list for 2014 polls
New Delhi, Feb 19: The new data released by the Election Commission (EC) reveals that a record 815 million voters will be eligible to vote in the forthcoming general election expected to be held in April-May.

Based on Census data, out of these numbers, it is estimated that a little under a fifth will be first-time voters.

The new data from the EC reveals that the battleground states of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, which elect 120 MPs to the 545-member Lok Sabha, account for 25% of the voters in the country, reported Mint.

India's most populous state of Uttar Pradesh has 134.35 million voters, or 16 % of the total electorate. The state has sent to Parliament seven Indian prime ministers.
