Noida Protest: Is Delhi Metro Affected or Running Normally? What Commuters Need To Know

Large-scale Noida protests by wage workers are causing major traffic jams across Delhi-NCR, leaving vehicles stuck for long periods on key corridors. While many arterial roads stay choked, Delhi Metro continues normal operations, and authorities are urging commuters to shift to trains wherever possible during the ongoing unrest on April 13.

The protest centres on demands for better pay and safer conditions in factories and industrial units around Noida and Greater Noida. Workers argue that salaries have not kept pace with inflation, and that overtime, shifts and job security policies remain unfair despite repeated appeals to management and local officials.

Noida protests: traffic chaos across Delhi-NCR corridors

Traffic disruption started early on Monday morning, April 13, and quickly spread from Noida to several nearby cities. Heavy congestion first appeared near Chilla Border and Sector 62, then extended to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Faridabad, Bulandshahr and the DND Flyover, causing long delays for office commuters and commercial vehicles.

The Chilla Border, which was fully blocked during the morning rush, has since been opened for movement, according to Delhi Traffic Police. However, commuters reported remaining stuck for over an hour in some stretches, complaining that very little traffic regulation staff were visible on the ground at crucial intersections.

Noida protests: Delhi Metro operations and commuter advisory

Despite the road gridlock, Delhi Metro services continue without any change in schedules or frequency. Officials from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation have not issued special advisories and stated that trains are running as usual. Authorities and traffic police are advising people to rely on Metro travel, especially during office hours, until the protest situation eases.

Workers participating in the Noida protests say most earn less than Rs 15,000 a month and struggle to manage rent, food and fuel costs. Several workers allege that they are asked to work 12-hour shifts and are pressing for 8-hour workdays with proper overtime and leave benefits that match industrial norms in nearby regions.

Noida protests: routes to avoid and diversions in place

Police have identified multiple stretches in and around Noida where congestion or diversions are in effect due to the Noida protests. Motorists are being warned about long delays and advised to use alternative routes or public transport. Key affected corridors and diversions announced by authorities are listed below for reference.

At the heart of the Noida protests is the demand for wage increases similar to those recently approved in Manesar, Haryana. Workers are asking for revisions aligned with the "Manesar model", after the Haryana government cleared a 35 per cent rise in minimum wages in that industrial belt following earlier labour unrest.

The Manesar wage hike, covering units that include major manufacturers such as Maruti Suzuki, has influenced expectations among industrial workers in Noida and Greater Noida. Rising living costs, driven by higher prices of essentials like food and fuel, have added to frustration, turning local grievances into a wider protest movement across the Delhi-NCR region.
