Centre draws the line for Arvind Kejriwal, supports Najeeb Jung

New Delhi, May 22: In a huge blow to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, the Centre issued a notification to specifying the role and powers of Lt Governor.

The notification clarified the powers of L-G and said that 'it's not mandatory for him to consult ministers.'

MHA also stated that 'IAS and IPS is administered by Centre.' The gazette notification said that the LG has jurisdiction over matters of services, public order, police and land.

"Anti-Corruption branch Police Station shall not take any cognizance of offences against officers, employees and functionaries of Central Govt," MHA stated in the notification. This will supersede a 1998 notification.

The notification was issued after Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervened into the matter. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had met Modi on Thursday to discuss the Delhi power tussle.

Meanwhile, reacting to the MHA notification, deputy CM Manish Sisodia said that the notification is an attempt to save the transfer-posting industry being run by bureaucrats in Delhi.

Former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit said: "Delhi is a difficult State to govern but you have to learn."
