Monsoon will be below normal in 2015: Met Department

New Delhi, April 22: Met department today gave its first forecast for the monsoon this year and said that 'rainfall will be 93 per cent below normal.

The Met department also said that 35% probability of monsoon remaining will be below normal.

Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said: "We expect only 93% of normal rainfall this year which is less than average." Harsh Vardhan said that El Nino conditions are likely to continue during monsoon.

Meanwhile, Nifty breached 8300 points as the forecast was made.

When asked whether El Nino is affecting monsoon in India, Harshvardhan said the global phenomena has also been taken in to account in the calculations.
