Planning Commission to be replaced soon
New Delhi, Aug 23: In his maiden Independence Day speech Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the government would do away with the 64-year-old Planning Commission and it would be replaced with a new body.

Members on the panel will be from different sections of the society including economic, government, industry and more.

Meanwhile, the Planning Commission has called a meeting of its former Deputy Chief and members on Tuesday to deliberate on the structure of the new body which will replace itself.

Those who are likely to be present for the Aug 26 meeting along with PM Modi are Abhijit Sen, Arun Maira, B K Chaturvedi, Saumitra Chaudhuri, Syeda Hameed and Narendra Jadhav.

Former Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia will also be present for the meeting.
