Meerut Metro: PM Modi To Open Meerut South–Modipuram Metro Stretch This Weekend

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the remaining stretch of the Meerut Metro on 22 February, marking a key step in the rollout of urban rail connectivity in the city.

Officials said the launch will cover the pending segment between Meerut South and Modipuram, completing a major portion of the corridor that is expected to improve daily travel across several densely populated parts of Meerut.

As per the programme, Modi will arrive by helicopter from New Delhi and land near Shatabdi Nagar station. He is expected to attend the inauguration ceremony at the station before travelling on the Meerut Metro up to Meerut South as part of the official launch event.

Ahead of the visit, security agencies have carried out inspections at Shatabdi Nagar and Meerut South stations to review passenger movement plans, access control and parking arrangements. Public entry through Gate Number 1 at Meerut South station will remain closed from 21 February, while commuters will continue to use Gate Number 2 during the Prime Minister's visit.

Police have also announced traffic diversions and access restrictions along the VVIP movement route on 22 February. The Prime Minister's travel corridor will remain under strict surveillance, with drone operations prohibited and rooftop deployment of security personnel planned along sensitive points.

Authorities said the inauguration of the Meerut Metro extension is expected to ease congestion on key arterial roads and provide a faster alternative for daily commuters within the city.

A detailed rehearsal of the Prime Minister's movement is being conducted to ensure coordination among metro authorities, police and administrative departments. The programme will be carried out under multi-layered security with CCTV monitoring at all major venues linked to the event.
