Man Seen Allegedly Urinating In Delhi Metro Lift, Police React After Video Goes Viral
A viral reel showing an elderly man allegedly urinating inside a lift at Delhi Metro’s Kalkaji station in front of two women has sparked strong online anger, pushing Delhi Police and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to publicly respond and clarify that the person has already been fined under metro rules for nuisance.
The controversy grows as many social media users debate whether the man’s conduct inside the confined lift could ever be justified by a medical condition, while others stress passenger safety and dignity for women, arguing that such behaviour makes public transport feel unsafe and undermines basic standards in one of Delhi’s busiest metro networks.

Delhi Metro viral video and Instagram reel details
The incident becomes widely known after Instagram user Deepshika Mehta posts a reel describing the episode, which now crosses 2 million views. In the caption, Deepshika writes, "Imagine entering a metro lift and seeing a man casually peeing inside it in front of two girls. This happened at Kalkaji Metro Station. Absolutely disgusting, shameful, and unacceptable. Public spaces are not your toilet."
Her video shows Deepshika later confronting the elderly man on the Delhi Metro platform after leaving the lift. When questioned on camera, the man responds, "Tum karlo jo karna hai" ("Do whatever you want"). When Deepshika asks if the man understands the act is wrong, he reportedly replies, "Haan toh galti kari toh sorry" ("Yes, I made a mistake, sorry").
Delhi Metro viral video investigation and police statement
Under the viral post, Delhi Police comments that an enquiry has been carried out through the office of the DCP Metro. Police say the man suffers a medical condition and explain that DMRC has punished the person under Section 59 of the DMRC Act, which deals with nuisance and similar misconduct in metro premises.
Sharing further details, police state: "The matter has been enquired from DCP Metro. As per the report, on 15.05.2026 at around 9:40 PM, the old person seen in the viral video was travelling from Jamia Metro Station to Faridabad Metro Station. During interchange at Kalkaji Metro Station, he reportedly faced a medical emergency and, despite trying to locate a nearby toilet facility, was unable to do so and when the situation went beyond control, he had to urinate in the bottle while he was in the lift," the police statement read.
The statement continues, "Some passengers objected and informed CISF/DMRC staff, following which necessary action was taken. The individual was penalised by DMRC under Section 59 of the DMRC Act for creating nuisance," it added. DMRC also notes in the comments that "the necessary action has been taken in this matter" and adds, "DMRC requests all passengers to co-operate with us in maintaining cleanliness and hygiene within the Delhi Metro premises," stressing shared responsibility.
Delhi Metro viral video reactions and public debate
Reaction online remains mixed. Many users criticise the behaviour as disturbing and unsafe, particularly because two women were trapped in the small lift when the man urinated, with one user simply calling it "Pathetic". Others highlight the person’s age and reported health issue, arguing that large interchange stations still lack enough visible, accessible toilets.
In a second reel, Deepshika says that even medical distress cannot erase basic civic duties in shared spaces. Deepshika explains that the purpose of posting was also broader: "I shared the complete incident not just to talk about what happened to me, but also to raise awareness about public safety and basic civic behaviour. No one should feel uncomfortable or unsafe while using public transport," she says, underlining ongoing worries about conduct inside the Delhi Metro system.
