Lt Gen Rath given clean chit in Sukna land scam

New Delhi, Sept 6: Lt General PK Rath was given a clean chit by the Delhi bench of Armed Forces Tribunal in the 2008 Sukna land

on Friday.

A bench headed by Justice Sunil Hali and Air Marshal J N Burma dismissed the verdict of Army's General Court Martial (GCM) and said that 'the petitioner is acquitted of all charges. He is entitled to restoration of all bebefits with 12 per cent interest. An individual's reputation and honour is a fundamental right."

Rath's advocate said: "Justice has been given to Gen Rath. Though his reputation cannot be compensated, the Army would have to pay Rs 1 lakh as compensation to Rath."

Gen (retd) VK Singh was the one who initiated legal proceedings against Gen Rath. Rath had challeneged the verdict of the GCM and said that he was being victimised by Singh.

GCM had acquitted Rath under 'intent of fraud' charges and held him guilty on three counts.
