Delhi Election 2025: Arvind Kejriwal Slams BJP’s 'Tax Terrorism,' Urges Focus On Middle Class Relief

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently took a strong swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the government of enforcing what he called "Tax Terrorism" on the middle class. In a video press conference, Kejriwal pointed to the growing financial strain on ordinary citizens, particularly those in the middle-income bracket, claiming they are the most burdened group in the country, as reported by Aaj Tak.

The Financial Struggles of the Middle Class

Kejriwal's remarks struck a chord with many, as he explained how an overwhelming percentage of the middle class's salary is consumed by taxes. "Around 50% of the salary of the middle class goes into paying taxes," he said. He further emphasized that even everyday items like groceries, milk, curd, and even pooja samagri are heavily taxed. According to Kejriwal, this excessive taxation has led to significant financial strain on the average citizen, causing hardships in their daily lives.

The Talent Drain: Young Indians Seeking Opportunities Abroad

Kejriwal didn't stop at criticizing the government's tax policies; he also voiced concerns over the migration of young, talented Indians. "Our youth, who could have significantly contributed to India's economic growth, are now working in other countries and sending money abroad," Kejriwal lamented. He believes this migration is a result of the oppressive economic environment in India, where young professionals seek better opportunities outside the country, as reported by Zee News.

Mismanagement of Tax Revenue

The Delhi CM went on to question the government's use of the taxes it collects. "There are only two ways the government can use this money: either to improve public welfare and basic amenities or to give heavy loans to their favored industrialists and later waive them off," Kejriwal noted. According to him, the priorities of the government seem misplaced, with the common people bearing the brunt of misallocation of resources.

Kejriwal's Efforts to Ease the Burden

Kejriwal highlighted the efforts his Delhi government has made to bring relief to the middle class, especially those in the aspirational section. "Through affordable education, healthcare, and monthly relief on electricity and water bills, I have tried to ease the financial burden of Delhi's middle class," he explained. His policies aim to provide some cushion to those struggling with the rising cost of living, as reported by Hindustan Times.

A Call for Reflection

In his concluding remarks, Kejriwal urged the citizens to reflect on the impact of government schemes. He encouraged them to ask their parents if such schemes had been available during their time, as he believes they would have greatly eased the financial challenges of previous generations. "The government must realize that it's not just about collecting taxes-it's about using that money for the betterment of the people," Kejriwal emphasized, as per media reports.

Kejriwal's comments come at a time when concerns about the financial hardships faced by the middle class are growing louder, with rising inflation and an increasing tax burden. His critique continues to resonate with many who feel that the government's economic policies are leaving the average citizen behind.
